“I didn’t heal them, I healed part of myself that created them…”
Dr Ihaleakala Hew Len
Ho'oponopona originates in the Hawaiian tradition of conflict resolution where individuals or groups would come together to heal their differences.
Morrnah Nalamuku Simeona, a healer in Hawaii, updated the practice so that individuals themselves could use the technique to achieve the results that once required a healer, or a second person, to perform.
Dr. Hew Len was one of her disciples and studied for years under her tutelage. A clinical psychologist by education, Dr. Len worked as a staff psychologist for Hawaii State Hospital for the criminally insane for three years from 1984-87.
Dr. Len used Ho'oponopono to "treat" the inmates. However, he did not ever meet with his patients. He merely looked at their files and practiced the technique, which is quite simple, yet powerful. Little by little, the ward began to change.
What was once a dangerous place to work where the inmates were habitually consigned to their cells because they were too dangerous to even let outside, had become a peaceful place where the inmates harmoniously integrated with one another and the staff. There were no more daily attacks by the inmates on one another and/or the staff. The staff no longer took sick days just to get away from the stress of their jobs.
What is this technique you ask?
It is simply the recognition that we as individuals are 100% responsible for what comes into our world. That is, no matter what circumstances appear in our life, we are responsible for it in that it is awakening deep records in our own subconscious that need to be cleansed. Dr. Lew calls this process "cleaning."
The traditional Ho'oponopono technique is four simple phrases:
This is the technique--asking forgiveness for that which is within us that has caused such a situation--is why Dr. Lew can say that he healed the part of himself that was the cause of the situation in the hospital where he worked.
This may be a tall order for some of us to accept. Nevertheless, I have practiced this technique for years and I can attest to the fact that it works. I attended one of Dr. Lew's seminars and learned that he has developed additional cleaning techniques. However, this basic system is what I have used and continue to use with great success.
Joe Vitale, author and Internet marketer, authored a book entitled Zero Limits: The Secret Hawaiian System for Wealth, Health, Peace, and More. While this book has received mixed reviews, it has definitely helped catapult Dr. Len and Ho'oponopono into the awareness of the general public.
